Ski resorts are major gathering points for tourists of all nationalities in winter. XXL letters are the new trend for ski resorts. At present, few major resorts do not have a giant structure bearing their name.
For them, it is a very effective way of gaining visibility on social media. The number of stories and posts published by tourists posing in front of these letters at resorts is enormous. They are among the most instagrammable spots in the mountains and allow visitors to keep souvenir photos of the resorts, guaranteeing automatic promotion of the destinations.
4 resorts have worked with Aupied2lalettre to establish an XXL identity: Font Romeu, Savoie Mont Blanc, Les Menuires and Tignes.
For these 4 clients, the structures are made from steel letters, all laser-cut and hand-assembled in our workshops.
#FONTROMEU in 3D XXL letters
For this Pyrenean resort, nearly 200 hours of work were required to manufacture this structure at the client’s request. Letters of 2 metres in height that can be moved easily and with integrated lighting. All placed on a blue, white and red base. The resort wanted to project a sporting and Olympic image. We therefore proposed a gold epoxy coating and a blue, white and red base.
These 10 characters are now part of the Font Romeu landscape.
#LESMENUIRES displays itself in big letters
Les Menuires, one of the largest ski resorts in France with more than 50 years of experience, also decided to establish an XXL identity at the summit of the resort.
A structure of nearly 13 metres has become one of the most well-known photo spots at the resort for skiers.
The constraints are the same as for the #Fontromeu structure — being moveable and able to withstand the climatic conditions imposed by high altitude!
A new promotional tool for this resort, which immediately found its audience. You can find numerous photos like the one shown, with tourists immortalising their holidays at 1,850 metres altitude.
#SAVOIE MONT BLANC tours the ski resorts
One of our latest projects, once again in the Alps, was for Savoie Mont Blanc and their logo. This resulted in a 3-storey structure featuring the regional coat of arms. It was installed on 15 April at the port of Doussard, facing Lake Annecy.
The Savoie Mont Blanc agency decided to implement this XXL lettering to complement the on-site signage of the region. This was in preparation for the upcoming sporting events taking place in Savoie and Haute-Savoie, such as the ski world cup and the Tour de France.
This giant logo measuring 5 metres wide by 2.5 metres high is made from steel ballasted with cast iron, with a total weight of 1.6 tonnes. This means it can still be moved easily using a telescopic handler.
A presentation film was produced by Lucas Stanus, featuring shots of the structure being manufactured in our workshops as well as presentation shots on the lakeshore with beautiful drone footage. Find it on the Savoie Mont Blanc agency website or on our social media channels.
#TIGNES displays itself in XXL
Tignes — an installation by helicopter winching…
The Tignes ski resort also succumbed to the charm and communication power of these giant letters. Our team’s expertise was once again called upon. The challenge was to:
- Reproduce the Tignes lettering and logo,
- Add a hashtag to encourage identification of the resort on future posts,
- Withstand extreme temperatures,
- Be self-ballasted, while being able to be sealed to the ground if necessary,
- Be easily moveable, while guaranteeing that visitors cannot move them,
Do not exceed the maximum loads that could be transported by helicopter.
Following a study carried out by our team, the project presented below was selected by our client.
The letters are manufactured by assembling aluminium sheets with weld seams along all edges, guaranteeing perfect watertightness of each one.
After grinding all the weld seams, sanding to prepare the bonding surface, and applying epoxy paint to the RAL references defined by the specifications, the letters are assembled on a steel-framed base covered with aluminium diamond-plate sheet. The base is extremely rigid and heavy, in order to guarantee the stability of the whole structure.
It is with great satisfaction that our team was able to witness the final installation of these 3D giant letters.
We are very proud of our client’s satisfaction, expressed through a Google review they kindly sent.
