The city of Mons is getting a colourful new welcome on the Place Léopold! The first urban installation in a series of design works to be set up along the station-capucins axis. The design agency Nuüd Studio conceived an anamorphosis in giant letters. This is how MONS transforms into LOVE when you walk around the structure.

The idea is excellent, and the effect is guaranteed for every passer-by leaving the station to head into Mons city centre.
An experienced team for the manufacture
As with all successful projects, you need the right idea — but it is equally important, even essential, to find the company capable of bringing this wonderful project to life.
Aupied2lalettre.com, French specialist in the manufacture of giant letters, was called upon to produce this anamorphosis. Even though the shape of the letters is more complex than for standard projects, the process remains the same. We present the stages below:
The manufacturing stages
- Study:
The 3D simulation is the first project validation stage. Each letter was drawn in compliance with manufacturing feasibility requirements. The 3D render allows the end client to visualise the future integration. After validation of the study and manufacturing plans, the next stage is material cutting.

- Laser cutting:
All the sheet metal needed to produce the letters after assembly is cut on our automated laser cutting machines. After cutting each element, the rolling and assembly phase begins.
“The expertise of our teams at the service of our clients’ creativity”
- Rolling and assembly:
The sheets are assembled and tacked to construct all the letters. Once the work is completed by our assembler, the letters are passed on to the welding team.
- Welding the letters:
All the junctions between the sheets forming each letter are sealed with a continuous weld seam. This guarantees the watertightness of the letter, as well as its resistance and aesthetic quality.
- Grinding and sanding:
Each weld seam is manually finished, first by grinding then sanding, to guarantee finishing quality. All edges are then radiused and the weld is invisible after painting.
- Coating:
The final phase is the application of the letter coating. Surface preparation is necessary to guarantee adhesion of the primer coat. The letters are therefore sandblasted.
A primer coat is applied by epoxy powder coating, then a second coat after passing through the oven. For this project, the client chose to apply a matt paint in a different colour on each letter.
- Transport and installation were handled by our teams together with the end client, in order to best meet the positioning requirements to ensure the anamorphosis effect works optimally.
